Our picture shows one of the recent lava flows from Ngauruhoe volcano as seen from the Chateau Tongariro, some six miles away. The first of the present flows occurred on June 4, and the greatest commenced on June 30. The mountain's activity continues, and from Taupo on Monday last it was noted that the new "spatter" cone being built up in the crater was appreciably higher than when last visible. While it is not possible to predict the course of the eruption, it is not unlikely that further lava flows may occur. Picture from a photograph by Mr E. T. Lloyd, formerly on the staff of the D.S.I.R., Taupo.
