"NEW FOOTBALL RULES"
Sir, — Your issue of July 2 contained an article headed "New Football Rules," purporting to acquaint followers of football with the new rules. Unfortunately, this article is most misleading, too much of what is written being incorrect and too many of the more important points of the recent changes being omitted.
Quite a bit of space, on the other hand, has been given to matters not affected by the new rules, while some of the explanations of the intent of the laws fall far short of their object. As a full criticism of some of the contents of the article, with the necessary explanations, would be too lengthy, we suggest that we supply for weekly publication a series of notes dealing with Rugby laws, mainly from the point of view of the recent changes and the objects they are intended to achieve. We would like to commend your paper for the interest shown in football and for the intention of your publication of the article referred to. I am, etc.
J. W.
WOODWARD,
Acting-Secretary, Taupo Rugby Referees Assn. [NOTE: — The "Times" will be pleased to publish the notes fnentioned by Mr Wood^ard, which should be of interest to Rugby players and spectators alike.— Editor.j
