CRICKET NOTES

The Taupo Cricket Club's match on Sunda'y, January 17, was between the Captain's and Vice-cap-tain's XIs. Beale led his Vice-cap-tain's XI into a strong position after a bad start, when with Clarke 84 runs were added for the third wicket. Ron Bjorngard batted well late in the innings and the total of 155 was made in good time, the innings taking just over H hours.

Th'anks to sustained hitting by Sutherland and Mclsaacs and good innings by some of the middle batsmen the Captain's XI gained a first innings lead of eight runs in slightly better time. C. Dixon finished off the innings by taking the last three wickets in four balls. The Vice-captain's XI improved still j further on the scoring rate when they smacked up 161 in an hour a quarter.

This innings included a very rapid scoring effort by Beale and Harding who rattled up 88 for the fifth wicket in just over half-an-hour. Left with 153 runs to obtain | in the last hour's play the Cap- 1 tain's team, which was under the control of Frank McKean in the absence of his father, found the task quite beyond it against some accurate bowling by Alan Clarke, who in only 6 overs took 6 wickets for 15 runs, The game was left drawn.
