TAURANGA-TAUPO MAORI SCHOOL

BREAKING UP DAY Breaking-up and Parents' Day was held at the Tauranga-taupo Maori School on Tuesday, December 15. The pupils entertained their parents with folk daneing, Maori action songs, poi dances and hakas, all in-eostume and of a very high standard. Older pupils presented . an item consisting of a properly constituted meeting at which speakers gave talks on nature studies. Correct procedure was followed and parents were much impressed. Mr L. Donaldson, School Committee Chairman, presented prizes as follows: Completion of Primary School career, Moana Maniapoto, Rangi Jones, Margaret Biddle, Vera Biddle, Louis Hani and Maru Maniapoto. First in Std. 5, Piata Kohika, 2nd Rachel Fleming; 1st Std. 4, John Irving, 2nd Eileen Takuira; 1st Std. 3,- James Maniapoto, 2nd Robert Irving; 1st Std. 2, Robyn Schow 2nd John Maniapoto; 1st Std. 1, Freda Pitiroa, 2nd Ronnie Fleming. Lunch provided by the Committee was prepared and served by the older girls, the children being provided with soft drinks and icecreams. Some 50 children will be going to Rotorua for the Royal Visit. !
