SUSPECTED THEFT OF FISHING RODS

A visitor to Taupo, Mrs J. R. C. Smith, of Patea, had a curious experience last week. When picnicking on the Lake beach in the neighbourhood of the Taharepa Domain near the 1 mile peg, Mrs Smith saw three fishing rods stand ing against a bush at the top of the beach. When Mrs Smith left the scene some time later the rods were still there. They were there the next day, and later were removed and handed to the Taupo police. The rods were of good quality, each with a reel and line, anc. would be worth a considerable sum. In each case the rods had been damaged by having had the brand or name roughly cut off the bottom section with a knife. It is thought that the rods may have been stolen.
