TRAFFIC OFFENCES BEFORE COURT
§ The Transport Dept. brought a number of traffic cases before the Magistrate's Court, Taupo, on Friday, November 27, Mr W. A. Har~ low, S.M., being on the Bench. Allan William Charles Bird, was charged that on May 13th he did drive a motor vehicle in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. Traffic Officer R. Peters, of Raetihi,, said that defendant went round an uphill bend on the Hatepe Hill only two feet from the edge of the road on the incorrect side. His Worship said it was a very bad case of its kind and might easiiy have resulted in disaster. Defendant was convicted and fined £10 with costs £1 and his driver's license was suspended for six weeks. George Chase was charged that on September 18th at Taupo he operated a heavy motor vehicle without a traffic license. Traffic Officer B. Muggeridge said that when seen in Tongariro Street defendant's license was three weeks overdue, and that on enquiring at the Borough Council offices that morning he found that defendant had not yet taken one out. Defendant was convicted and fined £7/10/- with costs £1. Sinclair and Yates Ltd., were charged with using a motor vehicle on August 19th at Taupo without having registration plates affixed. Plates had been obtained but not put on. The Magistrate said that third party insurance was not affected, the plates having been obtained, and the offence was not as , serious as failing to get plates. De-
fendants were fined £1 with costs £1. For not carrying in a motor vehicle a current warrant of fitness on August 19th Edgar William Hartstone was fined 10/- with costs £1,
