CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT
Sir, — There is one thing essential to the success of carols by candlelight and that is a suitable position. The one position that would have been readily available, since it involved only the moving of a truck onto the area to take a piano and loudspeaker, and for the use of guest artists, was the area adjacent to the wharf. It has everything for success but is "out of bounds" owing to an unsightly open drain crossing the area, which makes the position impossible at night. I, like many others, am anxious to see the spirit of Christmas retained and for/ thi's purpose I expect to have my, cottage at 7 Roberts Street, next Lake View, sufficiently advanced to open the large French door and take an overflow audience on the lawn, where, with the help of a piano and piano-accordian, carols may be sung, interspersed with items from friends. This could pave the way for other open air concerts and lead, I hope, to something bigger of a public nature when a position becomes available. I am, etc. E. E. MARSDEN.
