HATEPE NOTES
(From a Correspondent) The fishing season opened at Hatepe With condijtions at their best, the weather being ideal with over-cast sky and placid lake, and a large gathering of anglers. In the early morning of November 1st twenty rods fished the river mouth but fishing was disappointing, nine fish only being landed. However, many boats were out on the lake and record for an opening day, caught limits. One party of four fishermen took twenty-eight fish, the largest weighting seven and a half pounds. The heaviest fish reported was nine and a half pounds. The opening day at Hatepe was a memorable one. Mr and Mrs R. B. Wise, of Nauru Island, Central Pacific, with their two small daughters, were recently guests of Dr. and Mrs Dean at their fishing lodge at Hatepe. Mrs Wise is a member of the Nauru Island Administrative Staff. The family were amazed to see how profusely flowers grew in New Zealand. Mr Wise stated that our favoured country would be their choice for retirement. 1
