FISHING SEASON OPENS
MANY ANGLERS OUT The fishing season opened on Sunday last, November 1st, in fine weather, and though a north-east breeze prevented fiy-fishing at Waihaha mouth, conditions elsewhere were pleasant, if at times too cairn and glassy. Reports indicate that a large number of anglers were in the distriet. One license seller reported that he had sold £100 worth of licenses. Reports from the Turangi-Toka-anu area stated that quite a number of fish were taken, including several limits, but that average condition was poorer than last year judged from fish brought to be smoked. Motuopa Bay, news was rather better, some good catches being reported though some anglers were unsuccessful. The best fish reported there was a nice 8ilb rainbow taken by a member of Messrs. Brown and Stevenson's party, of Manaia. WTestern Bays reports indicate that fiy-fishing at the mouths of streams at Whakaipo and Whangamata was poor, but that some good fishing was had by trollers, with fish from about 41 to 5£ lbs. The wind was unfavourable at Waihah, while Waihora fishing was poor, best results being in the bays between there -and Rangatira. A local report mentioned four limits taken trolling between Acacia Bay and Mine Point, but these took all day to secure. Of about 100 fish seen by one informant the largest was 5i lbs and about one in seven was said to .be in really good condition. On the eastern side of the Lake reports indicated better catches by fishermen harling or trolling than fiy-fishing mouths and streams.
