FORESTRY WORKER'S DEATH
CORONER'S VERDICT The inquest into the d|ath of Allan William Lewis, formerly employed at Sixty Bar Eight Camp, Napier Road, was concluded an Thursday October 22nd, before the Coroner, Col. J. D. Swan, whose verdict was that deceased met his death on or about October 3rd as the result of falling into a hot mineral stream and drowning. Evidence given by Gordon Brunton, employed by Messrs. Lysaght, reticulation contractors, was to the effect that about 5 p.m. on October 3rd he saw deceased proceeding up the road toward Taupo in the vicinity of thei Spa Hotel, and that he appeared to be intoxicated and was staggering from side to side of the road. He saw deceased fall on the grass on the side of the road," and thought that he intended to "sleep it off." He identified the place where he saw deceased fall, which was adjacent to the spot in the warm stream where the body was found on October 17th. Witness did not know at the time he saw deceased that there was a stream close to the road at the point where he saw deceased fall.
