TAUPO BOROUGH ELECTION
INVITATION S TO CANDIDATES It has been the practice in Taupo for many years past, for the the Chairman of the local body, on the occasion of the elections of members, to arrange a public meeting prior to the election and to invite all candidates to attend and speak. In the past there has only been the election of members of the Town Board. On the present occasion there is, in addition tc the election of a Borough Council, that of a Mayor as well. In reply to a query from che Taupo "Times," Mr J. E. Story, who has been Chairman of the Town Board during the term now ending and who, at the time of going to press, is the only candidate reported to be standing for the Mayoralty, states that in accord with the practice mentioned, he intends to invite all candidates to attend a public meeting at a date to be ar~ ranged later. As has been the custom in the past, each candidate wishing to speak will be allotted a given time, while those attending will be given the opportunity to ask questions. Mr Story mentioned that the invitation he would extend did not, of course, affect the right of any candidate to arrange a meeting or meetings of his own if he so wished. Offer by Taupo Times. The Taupo "Times" extends an invitation to all candidates for the Borough Council to supply a statement of their views for publication up to a maximum length of one hundred words. Such statements will be published in the Taupo "Times" of October 23rd, and must be handed, either to the Editor, or to the "Times" D^pot, Heuheu Street, not later than Wednesday next, October 14th.
