MUNICIPAL NOTES

Sub-standard "Bach" Problem. ^A matter discussed at the Town Board meeting last week was that of "Baches" which did not comply with the building by-laws. It was mentioned that over a year ago a section own£r was given permission to erect a;n Army hut, on an assurance given by him that it was to be used only for storage of tools and gear while a dwelling was erected on the section. There were indications that this assurance had not been kept, and that the hut had been used as a bach, while no dwelling had been erected. The Board decided that the Building Inspector be asked to investigate and report on the matter. Borough Foreman's Report. In his monthly report to the Town Board, Mr G. W. Amer, Foreman, recommended that, in view of the fact that a water supply would be needed for the War Memorial Hall, a pipe-line from the Motor Camp at the Old Orchard be run and connected to the tanks in the old Domain. In the event of any failure of the pump at the Motor Camp water could be back-fed from the tanks in the old Domain. The proposal would obviate pumping water from the Lake to the old Domain when the Motor Camp pump was idle. The matter was Ieft'to the Works Committee with power to act.

Information for visitors. At last week's Town Board meeting a letter from the Businessmen's Association referred to the proposed notice board planned by the Association, which had been before the Board previously, and which it was proposed to erect in Tongariro Street. The board will incorporate a map of the town for the information of visitors, together with room for notices of entertainments and other matters of interest to tourists and visitors. It was stated that cost of the board and its erection was expected to be about £90 and the Association asked for assistance from the Town Board toward meeting the cost. Members expressed the opinion that the proposed notice board was well planned and would be of value and it was decided that the Board contribute half the cost provided that this contribution did not exceed £45.
