TAUPO FISHING SEASON

DATE NOT YET DECIDED There has been considerable conjecture in the district as to the date on which the coming fishing season in the Taupo Fishery District would open. For some considerable tiime the opening date has been November 1st, but at the Wild Life Conference held in Turangi on July 4th last there was discussion of seasonal dates and it has been thought possible that some change might be made. Departmental officers stated at the Conference that if any change were decided upon, notification of it would be made as early as possible. The matter was referred by the "Times" to the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, on Monday of this week, and a reply received the same day stated that the matter of the date of opening of the fishing season had not yet been decided by the Government, but that it was expected that the Department would be able to advise the "Times" early next week.
