FROM PINE TO PULP

BIG KINLEITH DEVELOPMENT Kraft ; pulp was produced commercially for the first time in New Zealand on Monday last, August 10, at N.Z. Forest Products Ltd.'s new mill at Kinleith. It will form part of a shipment to Tasmania as strengthening pulp for newsprint, and the Company has a contract to supply a minimum of 12,500 tons of sulphate pulp^ to Australian Newsprint Mills Ltcl. a year for the next twenty years. The construction story of this biggest private enterpris'e undertaking in New Zealand, involving nearly four years and £61 million, is due to end in mid-October when the company's paper mill starts operating, which will use the balance of 45,000 tons of pulp not required for export.
