BIRDS WERE SHY The thirty-seven local sportsmen who took part in the shag shoot organised for Sunday, August 2, bv Mr A. Hall, Wild Life Division of Internal Affairs Department, found that the birds in the area eovered were less numerous than last year, Shooters were stationed from 7 a.m. at various Lake shore points and four boats were out, while parties visited Rotongaio Lagoon, the rookery up the Waitahanui River, and points on the Waikato River. The birds wrere found to be wary, flymg high, the total tally killed being forty-one. A similar number was secured at the Southern end of the Lake by sportsmen organised by Mr P. Burstall. ranger at Turangi.
