POWER FOR WAIRAKEI
Sir, A short time ago you requested the forwarding of rumours. I heard a rumour which I am sure you will be able to scotch in double quick time. It was to the effect that a request for power at Wairakei was being met with the utmost expeditiom I am sure we all realise the utmost effort is required for the production of power, heavy water, hot air or whatever it is that is being produced at Wairakei but I am sure it will be a great relief to the patient housewives of Taupo and "suburbs" to be reassured that there is no foundation to this rumour. — I am, etc., R. D. TREMAINE. Taupo, 7/8/53. Note. — A report elsewhere in this issue, headed "Municipal Power Scheme," mentions that arrangements in connection with the supply of electric power to Wairakei hali been discussed in Wellington recently a Town Board deputation and the General Manager of the Tourist and Pubhcity Dept. Mr J. E. Story Town Board Chairman, to whom our correspondent's letter was referred, states that the supply of power to Wairakei will in no way affect the supply of power to consumers either in the Town District or elsewhere in the Board's Supply area. Further reference to the matter will be found in our editorial column. — Editor.
