TAUPO DRAMATIC SOCIETY

Two more plays were read at a meeting of the Dramatic Society recently. The first, a drama h.V Conrad C. Carter entitled "And Now the Journey" was well produced by Grace Booth. Pam Thompson, as Jean showed considerable promise as the daughter of Henry. The latter was a rough diamond part played by James Birnie who was extremely good as a bullying husband. Di Young, his long suffering wife also gave a very good portrayal of, her part, whilst Alec Tierney made a good job of the difficult part as the "visitor," as the ghost of Kate's first husband. This little play has a verv neat little plot, and all the players did justice to their reading. "Off With the Motley," by Philip Johnson, which was produced by Iris Taylor. is a whimsical satire introducing the successful lady novelist and her less successful husband, struggling along as editor of a children's page. The novelist, Miss Dantelyon, was played by Doris McBeth, and her husband, Arnold, by Jack McBeth, both of whom were taking part in their first reading in Taupo and showed that they would be valuable acquisitions in the future. Judy Thompson played the part of their daughter, Jane, who has become very bored with living in a world of make-believe. Her disappointment was greater still when she found that "the man who had lost his memory" (Rex Beale) was also an author.
