RUGBY AND BASKETBALL A number of primary schools were represented in Rugby football and Basketball games played on Saturday last, July 18th., at Taupo, the football heing played on the Domain ground and the basketball at the Taupo District High School. Football. Taupo B v. Tauiranga-taupo was a very even garne, ending in a draw with no score. Both sides were unlucky not to score on several occasions. Waring, Downes and Maniapoto, of the visiting feam, showed promise, as did Percival, Wi Warena and Nichol in the Taupo team. Taupo A v. Waitahanui 11-nil. Taupo was on the attack for most of the garne, S. Growther and P. Dixon being outstanding. Dixon scored two tries by determined running. Growther interc,epted brilliantly, scoring under the posts and converting his own try. Other promisjng Taupo players were M. Lough and K. Hurae, and among the Waitahanui boys D. Marama and H. Thompson. Taupo v. Combined (over 7 stone), 6-nil. Taupo had the edge on Combined in what was an even garne, but play fluctuated from end to end. M. Hurae scored two tries, while others to catch the eye were Gcirdine (Taupo), T. Rameka (Taupo) and J. Erua (Tauranga-Taupo). Mr T. Curham (Taupo D.H. School) was refer.ee. The next games will be played on Thursday, August 6th., when support from the public would be appreciated. Basketball. A Field Day compirising Taupo A and B, Waitahanui, Tauranga-Taupo, Tokaanu, and Waihi Convent, was arranged, Mrs Waihape acting as controller. Each team played five games. Taupo A won with nine points J(4 wins and 1 draw), Waihi | Convent and Tauranga-Taupo tying ! for second with seven points each. A Possible v. Probables game fol- ; lowed as a guide to the selectors.
