Maori Welfare Conference
TO BE HELD AT NUKUHAU An important Maori Welfare Conference is to be held at Nukuhau Pa, cn Saturday next, July 25th. Following a meeting of the Aotea Maori District Council . at Wanganui last month, an invitation was issued by that Council for delegates of ali other Maori District Gouncils in the country | to meet at Nukuhau as stated, it bej ing considered that Taupo's central position in the Island made it a logical meeting place. The conference .will discuss Ihe Maori Purposes Bill which is to come befor.e the House, and otheir matters affecting the welfare of the Maori people. There are fourteen District Gouncils, set up under the provisions of the Maori Social and Advancement Act. 1945, the expressed purrpose of which is the social and economie advancement, and the promotion and maintenance of the health and general well-being, of the Maori people. The Aotea Maori District ineludes, with other areas, the whole of the Tu wharetoa tribal territories of Taupo. The suggestion that the Conference should be held at Taupo was brought befor.e the Council by Mr T. T. A. Grace, of Taupo, a member of the Council. All Maori membetrs of Parliament have been invited to attend, together with. Maori Land Court judges, and officprs of the Maori Affairs Department.
