A Photograph Of Distinction...

This photograph, taken in 1951 by Mr T. B. Ambrose, of Hamilton, and published in the Taupo Times of July 23rd, 1952, has taken its record of the beauty of Taupo round the world, First exhibited at XVI Iris International Salon of Photography at Antwerp, it received art Honours Award at the Woolongong (N.S.W.) International Salon of Photography, and has been hung at Salons at Mysore, Havana, Yalparaiso, and Santiago, and received complimentary hangings at Kodak Galleries at Sydney and Melbourne. It has since been hung in Tokyo and Lcndon. In the Annual Ove^seas Competition held this year by the "Amateur Photographer/' the well known photographic journal, London, open to British subjects resident outside the British Isles, it was awarded a Silver Plaque. This is the highest award. The judge in his criticism, said that the print was "almost breathtaking in its cleanness and simplicity . . . the impression of depth . . it is so great that one ieeis it possible to go right into the picture . . . and the superb technique, with its lovely tone graduation, adds considerahly to the atmosphere and appeal." While our ;reproduction on newsprint cannot do justice to the photograph, it does give some impression of the photographer's success in creating a beautiful picture, rombining simplicity of design with a striking impression of depth.
