Taupo-Taradale Wedding
HOWARD — SMITH Two well-known Taupo and Taradale families wero linked at a most attractive wedding on Jidy 11th,, when Joy Shirley, only ehild of Mr and Mrs E. T. Smith, of Taupo, was anarried to Bruee Victor, elder son of Mr and M,rs E. V. Howard, of Taradale. The Rev. C. G. G. Salt officiated at the cer.emony in St. Andrew's Church, Taupo, whieh had been deeorated with fiowers by Mesdames A. Stott, E. Grey, W. Anderson and C. Anderson. The bride was given away by her father, and attended by Miss Natalie Howard, as chief bridesmaid, and by Miss Beverley Howard. The bride's gown was of white lace mounted over two layers of tulle and slipper satin. The fitting bodice featur.ed a row of tiny matching buttons and unusual scalloped revers edged with finely pleated tulle, which was repeated at the pointed cuffs of the long sleeves. The very full trained lace skirt was cut on redingote lines in front, to show the filmy nylon tulle underskirts. The full leng'th veil was held by a coronet of pearl tinted artificial orange blossoms and leaves. The bride wore an exquisite diamond pendant and carried a shower bouquet of camellias, orehids, lilies and . asparagus fern. Miss Natalie Howard wore white lace over lemon taffeta, and Miss Beyerley Howard white lace over mauve taffeta. Bothi gowns were styled alike, f.eaturing fitted buttoned bodices, Peter Pan collars, tiny sleeves and bouffant skirts. Both bridesmaids carried bouquets of orehids, mauve winter roses, cyclamen, camellias, daffodils and asparagus ±ern, and wore bandeaux of small tulle fiowers to tone with their gowns. » The f lower girl, Janet Smith, of Hamilton, wore a. dainty frock of pastel green taffeta with lace yoke, and carried a basket of fiowers. Mr Toby Wilkinson, of Taradale, was ; hest man and Mr W. Eichardson, of Greymouth, wag Groomsman, Upward of eighty guests were present at the reception at the Hotel Wairakei. Mrs E. T. Smith received i her guests wearing a smart, mid- 1 grey worsted suit relieved with1 black velvet, grey felt hat with pink feather trim at side, pink gloves and handbag, and grey shoes. Mirs E. V. Howard wore a blue gabardine suit with grey accessories. Both ladies wore orchid sprays. Mr Roy Wainhouse, who acted as organist at the wedding, was toastmasteir, and had be.en best man at j the wedding of the bride' s parents. The Rev. C. G. G. Sa'it proposed the toast of Her Majesty the Queen, Mr C. McLean thos.e of the bride and groom, the hest man, and the bridesmaids and f lower girl. Mr Wainhouse proposed the toast of the bride's parents, and Mr Wood that of the bridegroom's parents. The toasts were honoured enthusiastically, Mrs W. Anderson acting as accompanist on the piano. Following the cutting of the cake, Mr Pennycook, grandfather of the bride, proposed the toast of Absent Friends. The linking of hands and singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a delightful function to a elos.e. A party dance was held in Rickit's Hall in the evening, some two hundred and eighty guests being present. The Hall had been decorated with greenery, cotoneaster berries and festoons of white ribbon, a silver borse-shoe tied with white ribbon holding pride of place on the similarly decorated stage. Mr and Mrs E. T. Smith received the guests, Mrs Smith in a smart blue and black coektail gown and silver fox cap. Mrs E. V. Howard wore navy blue Maltese crepe studded^ with sequins. The bride and groom were- present and received a great ovation. The foride's going awny suit was of clovei pink gabardine with an unusual neckline, featuring triple rows of diamante studs, and was worn with brown accessories. A buffet suppeir was provid.ed, a T-shaped table being set in the Hall, decorated with trailing pointsettia and providihg a wide variety of attractive dishes. Mr Alan McLean
acted as master of ceremonies, and dancing was enjoyed to the music of Mrs Mika's band. The newly wed couple left Taupo for a motor tour, and" will take up residence at Westshore until their new house at Greenmeadows is completed.
