TAUPO VALUES & BUILDINGS
Sir, In my search for a home at Taupo I have learned many things. Owners have an exalted idea of the value of their section s, and those people prepared to sell a strange idea of values also. Measured by values elsewhere Jiouses at Taupo range from 25% to 50% dearer than comparable values prevailing elsewhere. A house costing say £3,000 at Auckland, Christchurch, Napier, would cost fully £4,000 at Taupo and the quality of the building? generally speaking, would bear no gomparison. This is to ihe deplored. There is far too much "bush carpentry" at Taupo. With exceptionsv, houses lack finish. Far too much untreated pine is used. Agreed you have no borer here yet but its coming is merely delayed. Once we had no white butterfly, no wasps! Pine is a poor quality timber and quite unacceptable to builders of repute elsewhere. In many instances the execution of work is exceptionally poor. However, chickens have been known to come home to roost and I ask in all sincerity why not tiry to study your customers ? With a life-time experience I know of no short cut to success; no quick way of making money. Character still makes the man. I am, ete.,
JOHN
