INJURED MAN'S ORDEAL

Two Calls For Ambulance About 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday last the Taupo Ambulance was called to Rangitaiki to pick up a post splitter, Mr Rai Mohi, who was reported to have suffered severe injuries to his back . When the Ambulance, driven by Mr A. Kennedy, with Mrs A. A. Booth as attendant, reached Rangitiki it was found that the injured | man was not there. Dr D. A. Richar'ds, who had been called, proceded with the Ambulance about five miles into the bush, when a motor lorrv was met bringing the injured man out. It appeared that some time after dark on the previous evening Mr Mohi, with several other post splitters, was returning to a bush camp when the lorry drove into a wash-out some sixteen feet deep. Mohi, who was a passenger* was thiPwn clear, but was apparently unable to move. His mates, believing his back to be injured left him on the ground and covered him with an old tarpaulin and a number of sacks. In the morning they brought him a cup of tea from their camp, and then tcok word of the accident to the Rangitaiki Hotel. Though suffering from shock and exposure, Mohi's injuries did not appear as serious as had been anticipated. He was drenched to the skin after lying out all night in cold and wet weather. Two Trips For Ambulance After attention by Dr Richards, Mohi was taken by Ambulance to Rotorua Hospital. A second trip to Rotorua* was made by the Ambulance at 9.30 p.m. the same night, Mr A. Kennedy again driving. A Hastings man, Mr Alfred W. Reeves, was injured when a car in which he was travelling rolled over a hank between Ohaki and the Waikato t Bridge, on the Rotorua Road. He 5 was attended in Taupo by Dr Jean - West, and then taken by Ambulance to hospital.
