Our picture, from a photograph supplied by Mrs W. Power, of Parnell Auckland, is the only one known fo the Times showing the three vessels once engaged in the cargo and passenger trade on Lake Taupo. In the foreground is the hull of the schooner Dauntless, built early in the 1880's for the wool trade from Tokaanu to Taupo. Upstream lies the hull of the Tauhara, the first steamship on ,the lake, owned by Mr Dan Ferney. in the background is the S.S. Tongariro, which was in the Taupo-Tokaanu passenger and cargo trade for the first twenty years of the present cantury. The photograph was probably taken more than fortyfive years ago.
