COMEDY AND DRAMA READINGS The Taupo Dramatic Society^ menibers' night on May 27th. provided a most enjoyable evening's entertainment, the comedy and drama presented affordihg an iiiteresting contrast in teehnique. "April aird September," by William Driver and Williarn Moruiti, a 20 minute drama with neat plot, was exceedingdy well cast and produce d by Iris Osborne. As ihe middle-aged wife who falls temporarily in love with an artistic young maii, Iris Osborne gave a very expressive porttrayal, as also did Charles Leslie as the husbaxid. Tom Curham played the young man eonvincingly, while Kaye Howie/s performance in the humorous role of the sister-in-law was patrticularly good. The husband's discovery of the relationship and that his wife was breaking it olf, provided a- ten.se se,ene well done by the whole east. Avis AcresJ production of the' W. W. Jacob' s comedy "Establishmg Re3ationsT? was highly successful and introduced seveu'al members who were making first appearances. David Woodward showed distinet promise as an impresisionable young mate in tlie marchant ■ navy, whio had deteirmined to meet the giri to whom his roving eye had been attracted. Bob Acres, sas the water side work-er who unwiliJngly assists in the seheme, gave an excelient performance. as also did Yvonne Sharp as the giri, and Jean West as her mother. Avis Acres, as the neighbour who is . called in to assist in dislodging the uninvited young man, brought the house down. 'An impromptu reading of "Man At The Doo>\" was given by Margaret Beale, Ellen Gail, Lois Denize and John Keliett,

Owing mainly to a shortage, at the swoment, of men piayers the Society has regrefcfully decided to eancel the piroposed August three-act comedy. It is intended to sitage three one-act piays on August 13th. and 14th., instead of in July, and thergafter to concentrate on the production of the usiial play at Christmas.
