A "Captain Cooker" Calls A resident in the town was surprised last week when a visitor commented on the' pig in his backyard, He rnaintained that he had no pig, Observation,- however, confirmed the visitor's stateme'nt. A black pig, about a third grown, with a snout that sgemed to indicate that his ancestry went back to the wild "Captain Cookers," was lurking in the thick scrub growth adjoining his back door. Some suitable food was placed near the edge of the scrub and soon the grateful piglet could be watched from the poreh wagging its happy white-tipped tail energetically as it ate. Plans have been made to continue feeding the visitor, meantime. Whether the pig will become suspicious of the reason for this provision of Social Security benefits remains to be seen. j Poppy Day Saies Mr Oarth Patchett, Treasurer, ! Taupo R.S.A., reports that the total | amount received from the Poppy Day Appeal totalled £70 ls 3d, which wai a little over double last year's receipts.
