GIRLS' MARCHING DISPLAY

Rotorua Xnd Taupo Teams The demonstration of marching given in the Taupo Domain Grounds o n Saturday afternoon, Apixil 18, was a most successful function. The girls' marching teams taking part were the Legionaires and Coronettes both of Rotorua, and the Taupo Crusaders, and they were greatly assisted by the well played march music of the Foxton S'ilver Band under their conductor, Mr W. Wilkinson, The display was preceded by a street march to the Domain from the assembly points in Roberts Street, opposite the Taupo Drug Store, and the excelient- marching of the three teams, with the band leading them up Tongariro Street, evoked favourable comment. At the Domain the proceedings were watched by about three hundred spectators, and consisted of demonstrations of the Fall In, March Plan and Leader's Display, given by each team in turn, with a further demonstration of the March Plan by fhe Legionaires, an expeadenced Rotorua marching team. A marching display in which the three teams joined was a very attractive feature of the afternoon. "Most Improved March er" During the afternoon Mir Monkhouse, of the Margery Daw Child's Wear Co., was called on to present a cup he had donated to the Taupo Crusaders' Team for their most improved marcher. Mr C. Cuirrie, ihstructor, mentioned that none of the Taupo" Crusaders team had seen marching before the present seasSion. They had shown great improvement, and in Napier Miss Shona George had been awarded the title of Miss Hawkes Bay, and at Hamilton Miss Ruth Anchor that of Miss Easter Parade. The cup was for the girl who had shown the greatest improvement in marching, and he then announced Miss Judy Galbraith as being the winner, to whom Mr Monkhouse presented the cup midst applause, stating that it would be accompanied by a gold medal. Popular items for the youngeir school children present were a number of races, and a lolly scramble. Messrs C. B. Dent and C. Currie acted as marshalls, with Mr Alan McLean assisting at the microphone.
