NOTABLE TOKAANU WEDDING
ASHER-CROSS I I A wedd'ing of wide interest took place at St. Paul's Church, Tokaanu, on Saturday morning, April 18, when Patricia Rewa, eldest laughter c.f Mrs P. Maniapoto, of Te Rangiita, was married to David Asher, third son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Asher, of Tokaanu. The Rt. Rev. W. N. Panapa, Bishop of Aotearoa, officiated, assisted by the Rev. W. Skey, of Taupo. The bride was given away by her step-father Mr Pat Maniapoto. The bridesmaid! was Miss Rachel Asher, assisted by the bridegroom's niece, Joan Chapman. The best man was Mr John Asher, the bridegroom's eldest brother.
The reception was held at Puhaorangi meeting house, Tokaanu, and a fully representative gathering of , Maori elders, friends and relatives, ( comprising all sections - of the Tuwharetoa tribe and related tribes, were present, The many guests present included Mr and Mrs Rex Smith, | Mr and Mrs P. Huka, Mr and Mrs Jock Weir, Mr and Mrs Ifepi Te Heuheu, all of Taumarunui, Mr and Mrs J. H. Graee, Wellington, Mr and Mrs J. W. Durward; Mr and Mrs T. Hart- j ley, Mrs T. Banks, of Turangi; Mr and Mrs Eric Jones, of Te Rangiita; Mr and Mrs Fred Edkins, Mr and Mrs Bert Cox, of Tokaanu; Mr and Mrs D. Hemara, of Hamilton; Mr and Mrs Alf Moiki, of Pukawa; Mr and Mrs A. Mason, Mr and, Mrs A. MariU, of Te Aputa; Mr and Mrs Joe Koko, t of Waihi. .... . • . *«> > . The bridai pair will live iii the Tokaanu district where the bridegroom is engaged in farming a section of his family's extensive land interests.
