Unloading cargo from the S.S. Tongariro at Tokaanu Wharf. This picture, from a photograph kindly supplied by Mrs W. Power, was taken prior to 1918, For many years the bu!k of the goods for Tokaanu reached there across the Lake from Taupo, carried first by Mr Dan Ferney's steamer Tauhara and then for twenty odd years by the Tongariro, whose master until 1917 was Captain Thomas ("Darby") Ryan.
