SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION
i NOMINATIONS CLOSE TODAY The election of a Committee for the Taupo District High School is to take place at the school on Wedr nesday next, April 22nd., at 7.80 p.m. and, as the school roll is now in excess of 240, nominations for the Oommittee must be in the hands of the Chairman, Mr B. J. Baumberg, before 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 15th. The number of members on committees varies aCcording to the number s on the school roll, the requisite number in the case of the Taupo School Committee being nine. Each nomination must be signed both by the candidiate and the proposer, and shall be in the form set forth in the Act., or to the effect thereof. Forms may be obtained from the chairman, Mr Baumberg. Those entitled to vote at the meeting held for the election of the Committee are householders of the school district, and a parent or J guardian oi a child: attending the school, v^herever such parent or guardian may be residing. Such a parent or guardian is also eligible for election as a member of the committee. New Education Board. Taupo is in the recently created -South Auckland Education District, which is at present administered by a Commission. An Education Board for the new district is to be elected at some time this year not later than November 1st. The members of the tk vv Boar d will be elected by the votes of members of committees of schools in the Boara s district. The number of such schools is 286. The school committee is the legally constituted management organisation for ihe school, and certain funds are paid to it by the Education Department. In recent years the parentteacher movement, sometimes known as the home and school movement, has grown up, and such organisations as the Taupo Home and School Association are assisting Committees very materially by raising funds for sporting equipment, library books and other purposes tending to the welfare of pupils. Present Committee Members. The present Taupo School Committee is headed: by Mr B. J. Baumberg, who has been Chairman for some twelve years. Other members are Miss K. O. Lewis, Mrs V. S. Pearce, Messrs C. E. Baker, T. Burt (Secretary), W L. Fulljames, W. L. Haines, W. J. Murray.
