BJg Musical Event The Taupo Community Arts Service advices that arrangenients have been nnalised for a recital in Taupo on May 21st by Maurice Clare, the well known violinist. Owing- to difhculties iregarding a suitable piano, Br and Mrs Thomas have kindly conI sented to the conceif; being held at their residence, Lake Front Road. There will be seating accommodation for eighty people. Sirice his Gordon debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1930 at the age of fifteen, Mr Clare has achieved an international reputa- ; tion, and his visit to Taupo is a ! major musical event. He toured New I Zealand in 1938 and was responsible 1 for forming the National S'tring Orchestra which subsequently breught into being the National Symphony Orchestra of N.Z. In 1947 he became leader of the famous Boyd Neel Ori chestra, and appeared with theufi. joften as soloist, in Britain, HollandL ! Sweden, France, Italy and Poi tugal. I Maurice Clare was accorded high : praise foa* his performance at the ; Edinburgh Festivals of 1948 and 1 1951. On his Taupo visit Mr Clare will have as his accompanist Frederick Page, well known soloist and concert player and a frequent broadcaster. 1
