POSITION RE LAKE HOTEL

LETTER FROM LICENSING COMMfTTEE TO TOWN BOARD In a letter dated March 6, 1953, addressed to the Town Clerk, Taupo Town Board, the Clerk of the Waimarino Licensing Committee, Taihape, replies to an enquiry made by the Town Board as to fhe present position with regard to the rebuildirig of the Lake Hotel, Taupo. After referring to hegotiations with the late cwners as to the buildings of new premises up to the standard required by the Licensing Control Commission, and the subsequent sale to the present owners, early last year, the letter continues — "The present owners have lodged plans for up to date premises which pians art in accordaiice with the, pres ent requirements of the Licensing Commission, and my Committee is pressing for an early commencement of the work. Committee Not Satisfied. "The present teniponary license expires in June next when the whole position will be reviewed at ihe Annual Meeting of the Committee. My Committee is defimtely not satisfied with the progress that has been made to date and has intimated to the owners that unless construction of the new premises is actually under way at the date of the annual meeting* in June the Committee will, subjeet to any submissions by the owners, refuse to grant any further temporary licenses. Time Erection Commenced. "It must be appreciated that the standard oi premises required by fhe Licensing Control Commission and this Committee in accordance with the approval plans involves very considerable capital outlay and a greaf deal of preliminary work. The Committee has had to giye the new owners reasonable time as there 'are. many matters beyond their inimediate control. However, the Committee is now of the opinion that it is time the work oi the erection of the new premises is commenced and, within the limits of its powers, is doing everything possible to bring premises befitting to Taupo into being."
