Town Board Motor Camp. — The Town Board's new motor camp, opened this season at the Old orchard site on the river bank, a little above the Dam, has been g-iven a cordial welcome by camping motorists. In December the number of campers through tne month averaged one hundred and eleven per day, and in January the daily average was one hundred and seventy six. Much lavourable comment on the position of the camp and its amenities has been made by campers. One visitor, who had visited many of the leading camps of the North Island in recent weeks prior to his visit, expressed the opinion that it had the makings oi a camp equal to the best in the Island. ★ I Burning Off Near Taupo. — Burning off operations commenced last Week on the large area of land, mostly Crown Land/ lying north of the Golf Links toward Lake -Rotokawa. A ploughed strip has been put round the area, and burning will be dorie inside this. While the wOrk | is primarily a fire protection rneasure it is to be boped that the work oi putting the area under grass will not be long postponed. The presj ent operations are under the charge oi officers of the Lands Departm ent. ★ Taupo's Lower Scheme. — Applications for connection to the electric light mains now total four hundred . and seventeen. Seventy consumers have been connected, anc on March 11th. the first reading of consu'mers' meters took place. The meters which were read were those j ff all consumers connected from the inception of the scheme on December 23rd. up to February 28th.
