SOCIAL FOR SISTER LOWRY
TRIRUTE TO MAORI MISSIONER Sister Mary Lowry, of the Presbyterian Maori Mission, who has been transferred to Waikaremoana, was giiest of honour at a social held in Rickit's Hall last Wednesday eveniug. There was a representative attendance, including a nirmber of children both Maori and pakaha, and a programme which included Maori items by a Waipahihi group, piano duets by Mrs Sherwood and Dr Jean West, song^s by Mrs Hiile, Mrs A. Kennedy, Mr J. Kellett and Mr F'rank McKean, with recitations by Miss K. Lough and Mrs L. Beale and a Highland c'ance by Miss, M. Geoghan. Presenfations to Sister Mary were made on behalf of the Sunday School (by Miss Alice Shugar), Girls Life Brigade, Busy Bees, and the Riwa family. Mr Hugh Rickard then paid a tribute to Sister Mary and her devoted work among the Taupo people and presented her with a cheque on behalf of the Presbyterian Church, the St. John Ambulance, the Maori people and other friends. Mr Pat Grey spoke on behalf of the Maori people, and sang' Jb Maori the sing 'To Atarau," followed in the English version by the audience. In replying Sister Mary referred to her memories of work in Maiigapohatu, and said that her years in Taupo would live with them • in her heart. Following the singing of "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow" supper was served and personal goodbyes said. Mr J. E. Osborne was the eapable programme organis>er. ■ 'i'
