PARTIES FOR BRIDE-TO-BE

MISS ACUSHLA ORR The first of a series of pre-wed-ding parties for Miss Acushla Orr, a February bride-to-be, was given by Mrs G. Patchett at ber home Rawhiti Street on Saturday, January 31st. Miss Orr lcoked charming in a white embroidered Robia voile frock witb shellpink straw hat and handbag, white three-quarter length g'loves and smart afternoon sandals, and wore a white spray presented by the hostess. Mrs Orr wore a becoming omushroom pink linen frock with touches of white. Mrs Patchett reeeived her guests in a lavender waffie everglaze frock trimmed with white broderie anglaise. Among those present were Miss J. Branson, Mesdames Ar McLean, G. Anchor, R. 'Casson, H. Hullten, G. Marlow, and K. E. Young. Games were played and a dainty afternoon tea serVed, when Miss Orr opened ;ier varied gifts, ail being for her bathrocm. She returned thanks in a siicrr speech. Mrs G. Marlow, H. Hnllten and R. Casson were hostesses at an enjoyable "Pantry evening'' at the former's home, Tuesday, February 3rd.

Miss Orr who wore a blaek goray ©ki-rt topped with a dainty pink lace blouse, was the recipient of a number of useful gifts. Those present were Mesdames W. Orr, G. Anchor, R. Clark, John Young, G. Stewart, K. E. Young, A. McLean, A. Bourgeois, Ti Burt, A. Smith, Misses J. Branson, R. McKelvie, M. Smith and N. McCowan. , On Wednesdav evening last Miss Orr was the recipient of gifts an:l good wishes at a pleasant cocktail party and gift evening at the Hotel Wairakei, the hostesses being the Hotel Receptionists, Misses McCown, Currie, Reed and Ingrarn. The reception room was tastefully deeorated with flowers and novelties. Those present included Mesdames Orr, Casson, Marlow, Luttrell, Anchor, Hille, Graham and Hullten. On Thursday last Mrs Colbeck and Miss Branson gave a "Kitchen tea" at Mrs Colbeck's home, Titiraupenga Street, at which Miss Orr wore a smart navy biue moroeain frock with aitthactively draped neckline touehed with white. Mrs Orr wore a red taffeta. frock with white checks and Mrs Colbeck a smokey grey linen frock. The room was charmingly deccrated with large bowls of golden t zinnias and dahlias, and gladioli, perennial phlox and hydrangeas. Present were Mesdames Branson, L.

Stewart Misses McKelvie and Fleming. . * , PRESENTATION TO MRS A. H. REID ST. JOHN AMBULANCE TRIBUTE Mrs A. H. Reid was honoured at two functions last week, the St. John Ambulance Brigade parade on ihe Monday, and the St. John Ambulance Association monthly meeting on Wednesday. At the Brigade parade the Lady Superintendent, Mrs J. E. BOoth, presented Mrs Reid with a heat-controlled electric iron, and paid tri-bute to Mrs Reid's unstinted work for the Brigade over a long- period. At the Association meetinp: the Chairman, Mr W. J. Stevens, presented Mrs Reid with a crystal ibowl in token of their appreciation of her seryices. Mrs Reid had been a member of the Brigade since its inception in the War years, and was Lady Superintendent prior ;to Mrs Booth. Her care for the Ambulance linen had been a labour of love, and its condition and that of the Ambulance, which were second to none, reflected her untiring elforts. Mrs Reid briefly returned thanks for th€ honour done her.
