BIG CROWD OF BUYERS TOP PRICE, £750 In pursuanee of itsi programme of offering* Crown Lands sections for sale in hoiiday resorts the Lands and' Survey Department, Hamilton, conducted an auction of a number of Lakeside lots at Rickit's Hall, Taupo,^ on Saturday laat January 24th. When the sale eommenced, at 2 p.m., the hall was paeked to the doors, and overflowed into the area alongside by the open window:s. Both sides of , Tongariro Street were lined with cars, and miany other.s were parked in adjacent thoroughfares. It was evident that buyers had come from far and near to attend the auction, Competition fhroughout the sale was brisk. Top price was £750, for a section at Waitoke (No. 28). The lots offered comprised 23 sections at Tauhara Township, four mileg from Taupo on the eastern side of the lake; 13 sections at Waitetoko, 22 miles from.' Taupo; 1 at Oruatua^ 2 miles further on; 2 at Motuopa, 3 miles beyond that. The Tauhara and Waitetoko sections were 1-5 acre eacth ; at Oruatua and Motuopa 1 acre each. AIso oifered were 10 sections, at Turangi, but bidding for these, except for one, failed to reach the reserve . - 1 Mr F. W. Maslein, was the auction eer. Also present with a secretarial staff to deal with the purchasers and sign declarations, wa;s Mr N. J. Till, Commissioner of Cro wn Lands at ^Hamilton. Details of the saies are as follows; — e Tauhara. No. 4, £650; 10, £475; 11, ^£485; 12, £540; 15, £700; 26, £340; 29, £350; 30, £300; 32, £250; 34, £260; 35, £270; 37, £270; 39, £260; 41, £280; 44, £310; 47, £220; /49, £250; 50, £250; 55, £230. bections 16, 17, 19, 21 were passed in failing to reach the reserve of £325 each. Subsequently re-offered, one, No. 19, found a buyer at £355. Waitetoke. No. 28, £750; 44, £410; 46, £330; 48, £350; 51, £325; 53, £320; 54, £330; 68, £300; 70, £280; 72, £290; 73, £301; 76, £290; 78, £265. Oruatua. No. 12, £395. Motuapo. No. 48, £460; 50, £500. Turangi (Taupalie Township). No. 35, £240. The other 9 offered were unsold, there being no bids in 2 cases, and in the remaining seven the bidding failed to reach the reserve whieh ranged from £250 tb £275. The nearest was a bid of £200 for Lot 34.
