THEATRE CROWDS, PRICES AND MATINEES
(To the Editor) Sir,— May I through your cokimns express my alarm at the overcrowded condition of our loeai picture theatre, Not only are the permanent rows of seats pushed so close that passing a seated pabron is almost impossible, but even more deplorable is the custom of introducing chairs up and down the aisle at random for busy nights. Should an earthquake or a fir'e occur I shudder to contemplate the pandemonium as all and sundry attempted to struggle past the seating to the exits. Might I add also that thp admission price of 2/6 for children duiing the holidays also made me shudder. Is it faisr to charge the local families who keep the theatre going during the winter months fancy prices like this, when no alternative matinees are oifered ? If matinees were held daily during the busy period and on S'aturdays during the winter months, over-crowding at night would be avoided, and the service would be appreciated by the local parents. — I etc "CHILDREN'S MATINEES" Taupo, Januaory 16, 1953.
