TAUPO TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Taupo Town Board held on Wednesday, December 17th, there were present, the Chairman (Mr J. E. Story, the Deputy-Chairman (Mr J. D. Swan), and the following members : Mrs K. O. Lewis, and Messrs K. E. Young, W. G. Morris, C. R^ Vedder, and W. I. Irvine. The agenda for the meeting: was largely routine. An application from Mr T. M. Kent for permission to use a portion of land on the Spa Road, comprising | an acrte, was declined on the ground that the area was too small, and that the type of accommodation proposed to be pi'ovided was unsuitable. It was considered that the town was now well served with camping facilities. It was decided to inform the Businessmen's Association, in reply to a request for a clear definition of the building regulations in the business area, that the dividing wall of buildings must in all cases be of concrete. The restriction did not apply to interior partition walls.
The dog license for t.he ensuing year >vas fixed at 7/6 for working dogs and 10/- for others. Certain amendments to the plans and spec^fications for the ditessing' rooms at the new War Memorial Hall were approved and referred to the contractors for implementation. As the result. of representations made the Board decided to raise with the Building Controller the question of lifting the existing restriction of 500 square feet of floor space for holiday accommodation. It was considered that the demand for holiday cottages had now settled down; and that new houses built to the existing specifications were being offered on a rental basis without regard to their suitability as permanent homes. It was not considered to be in the best of interests of the community that its residential areas should be cluttered up with houses of this type. It was decided to make representations to Mr A. D. Mackenzie as to the necessity for the fairway in front of his garage on the Lake Front being kept clear of cars and trucks as a safety precaution for through traffic. As the result of complaints received, the Board decided to make representations to Mr J. E. Booth to reduce in some way the annoyance caused to neighbouring residents by the noises proceeding from his wotkshop. It was decided to impose a penaliy of 10 ser cent on all rates outstanding over a period of six months and fourteen days after demand, for the year 1952-53.
The Board defcided to endorse the application of Mr George Harlow, of the Taupo Milk Supply, for an increase in his milk margin in order U> cope with the irtcreasing demands by the community. As the result oi reported oresistance or ignoring of the authority of the poundkeeper the Board decided to take effective steps to see that the by-laws dealing with wandering stock were strictly enforced and that his authority was respected. The i meeting concluded with the customary felicitations in honour of Christmastide and the coming New Year.
