| A well attended committee meetI ing of the Taupo Businessmen's Association was held on December 9th at Rickits Hall. To date this was the best meeting held. It was decided to write to certain hawkers pointing out that it was contravening the regulation to trade in Taupo on a Sunday, and also to open a vehicle as a stall after business hours. Any further cases of the kind would be reported to the Labour Department. A further working bee on the Chiidren's Playground was arranged for 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 18th. It was reported that the manufacturing of the swing and seesaw units was a little behind schedule owing to pressure of business. The Committee , and all other interested members are asked to attend a meeting on Tuesday, December 16th, to make arrangements for the Businesmen's Float for the Carnival procession on January 2nd. All retailers are asked to have shop frontages, verandah posts, etc., decorated with greenery for Ghristmas week, by which time, it was hoped, the main streets would be electrically illuminated. Discussion took place on the possibility of holding a type of gallop poli of local citizens in February next concerning the idea of changing the statutory weekday holiday from Thursday to Monday. Voting boxes would be placed at each grocery store in the event of the idea being parried out. After a lengthy discussion in regard to certain anomalies existing in local body administration the meet- ; ing closed.
