TAUPO GIRL GUIDES
ASSOCIATION BUSINESS At a quarterly meeting' of the Taupo Girl Guides Association on Oetober 16th., it was proposed by Mrs Kennedy and 2nd. by Mr Osborne that an indpendent conimittee be set up for the Arohanui junior marching team, this commifctee to consist of the chairman, a chaperone, instructor, manager, the sec.-tres., and one other. The following members were elected: chairman, Mr C. Thomas; sec.-tres., Miss Judy Thompson; Instructress, Mrs L. Erickson; Chaperone, Mrs H. Peart; manageress, Mrs H .Snooks; conimittee member, Mrs A. Kennedy. A competition for the camera was then >drawn. This was presented to the Guide Company by Mr Gordon Fraser, and brought in £6 4/- towai1 d the funds. The camera was won by Hendop Rrid, who guessed the correct number of beans. The number being 467, his winning guess 466. The eaptain, Mrs Peart reported that during the month a very happy function took place, the girls presenting to Auntie Ku a small crystal token in the form of a guide trefoil set up as a cruet. This was in appreciation on her birthday of the many kindnesses shown to the company during their re-organisation which has helped them to reach their present standard in Taupo. This closed the business of the nieelirg and followed a delightful talk by Mr Cuekseys, who was introdueed to all present by Colonel J. D. Swan. Mr Cuekseys, Poy Seout Commissioner ^nd advisor for New Zealand spoke bQth of guides and scouts of which he had a very thorough knowledge. He has travelled the world with boys, sometimes as many as 600, to International Jamborees, telling many interesting* stories of his experience with Troops. He drew strict attention that their training should be thorough and of a very high standard, and that all ieaders should be chosen with this yiew in mind, saying. that the boys and girls of today, would be our citizens of tomor-/ row, and that there were many snags ahead of them, through the unheaval in the world today they must be fitted to meet life in all its walks, and to observe religion, education, and the Seout and Guide Law. This c-oncluded an interesting talk with the promise of an early return visit to the Guide Company and the Boy Scouts. The girl guides appeal to the public, which will take place on November 8, will be a street stall, where the girl guides will sell everything and anything which their friends and well-wishers will give them to sell. This is the guides first appeal to the public for funds, and as we are only allowed two annually, we must be sure to make this a bumper one, so please friends rally round us. The girl guide concert which the girls are working hard for to raise funds for the Memorial Hall, will be staged on December 20, and promises to be very good. There are 12 items including dancing, singing, choir work, and a short play which includes the Guides and Brownies numbering about 40 giFs. 1 *
