Unique Event in British Shipbuilding

An event, believed to be unique in the annals of British shipbuilding, took place at Belfast this month when Harland and Wolff Ltd., carried out in one day the trial ship, launch and keel laying of three similar oil tankers of 18,500 tons d.w. for the same owners, Anders Jahre and Co., A/S Sandefjord, Norway. Mr Jahre who was present on the occasion said that the ships constructed for his firm at Belfast could not be bettered and were built by first-class craftsmen. A further order for a motor tanker of about 12,300 tons d.w. has been placed by Anders Jahre and Co. Orders for two similar vessels for these owners were announeed by Harland and Wolff in January.
