COMING-OF-AGE PARTY

MR & MRS A. M. SMITH ENTERTAIisr At least 350 guests were present at Rickit's Hall, on ISaturday, October 18th., at the invitation of Mr and Mrs A. M. Smith to celebrate the coming of age of their daughter Margaret. The guest of honour looked charming in a gown of ivory tulle, featuring applauded satin maple leaves, moulded bodice and bouffant skirt, worn with nylon mittens and ari crchid spray. Mrs A. 'M. Smith wore an aqua embroidered, nylon net gown, witih matching stole and a spray of orchids. On arrival the guests were presented to Margaret and the host and hostess by Mr Sam Woodward. The Master of Ceremonies was Mr L. Cheal who very efficiently carried-. out his duties, making a very neat speech on behalf of those present and congratulating Margaret on attaining her majority. Mr Cheal then presented her with the key of the door. The huge birthday cake with twenty-one candles was cut. and sampled by the guests, who unfortunately could not do justice to it, as a very elaborate, beautifully served supper had been partaken shortly before. Rickitfs Hall itself, was a sight well worth seeing, the decorations of balloons, greenery and silver foil streamers forming a most attractive scene. Music was supnlied by MacHabib's orchestra with extras by Mr D. Frazer, and Mr J. Kellet, and als© by Pipe Major Chris McCartney on his bagpipes. Mr Dennis Rameka | and Miss Joy Smith gave enjoyable vccal items. At the conclusion of the evening Mr Cheal on behalf of the guests warmly thanked the host and hostess for their very lavish hospitality and a wonderful evening's entertainment. | In reply Mr A. M. Smith thanked | those present for attending and expressed his gratitude to all those who had worked so hard to make the evening such a success. Musicaf i honours- were then sung, Auld Lang Syne following. In graceful acknowledgments Miss j Margaret replied to the M.Cds good | wishes, and thanked the guests for \ their beautiful gifts, and her parents for the haippy gathering. Many guests stayed on to view the jhandsome array of beautiful presi ents which were on display on the | stage. ANDREW'S GUILD The monthly meeting of St. Andrew's Anglican Church Guild was held on October 20th., at RickiUs Hal-l. There was a good attendance. Two new members were enrolied. Plans were finalised for the Sale ot Work to be held on November 15th. Articles handed in were many and varied Some ipteresting raffles have been arranged, and the prqceeds from these will be devoted to Church maintenance and repaii's. ★ Felevision for Art. — Television is being used to teach art to children in New York City. The Cityhs Museum of Modern Art is present ing a 13-week series of art instruccion televised in the Museum -s ari classes which are conducted for children between the ages of 3 and 10. ^ The programmes are also being filmed and made available to art educators, schools, andmuseums
