TOKAANU NEWS
VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE The monthly meeting of the Tokaanu Fire Brigade was held in Ford's Store on Tuesday, October 7th. The Superintendent, Mr Sutherland was in the chair and the following were present: — Messrs H» B. Proctor, F. Hill, M. Campbell, Pa Dempsey, A, Maricich, A. Withington, B. F. Edkins and V. J. Ford, secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Buxton and Rev. Father Aarts. The resignation of Mr Ford who is leaving the district was received with regret. Mr Ford has been. the Secretary of the Brigade for the past four years. Mr Bruce Edkins : has been duly elected his successor. A Circular was received from Warmaid Bros. concerning the Nicerol foam solution. After a brief discussion it was decided that the Brigade did not require any of the solution at present. A letter was also received from Internal Affairs Department concerning regulation traffic lights, stop signs, speed limits sirens, front red lamps and 'heavy traffic regulation. After a brief discussion it was found that the above mentioned did not concern either the district or the machine. The Secretary reported that the Lands and Survey Department would contact the Public Works Department and have a track bulldozed through the areas recently cleared of scrub in the Turangi area. A discussion then took place regarding the connection with the lights in the Fire Station to the main wires from the Hotel. Mr Withington was asked to procure a switch hoard and erect the same in the Fire Station. Mr Sutherland reported that the European residents had most generously donated an excellent sum of money to the Brigades funds. It was decided that the next practice is to be held in Sunday October 12th. Firemen are to assemble at the Fire Station at 10.30 a.m.
