APPEARANCE IN COURT AFTER CAPTURE The escaped prisoner Alfred Hicks Howell, aged 35, who escaped from Rangipo prisoit on July 20th., and was recaptured at Te Araroa on September 18th., appeared before the Justice Court, in Napier on Friday last, October '• -:3rd.: : : " -The.. charges were: — - (1) Escaping from prison at Tokaanu on July 20. »{2) Theft from the house of Mabel Winifred Coleman, at Turangi, on July 29 of goods to a value of £185. (3) Breaking' and entering the house of John Thomas Hogan, at Two' iMpe Bay, Taupo, on July 30, and theft. (4) Breaking and entering the warehouse of Battersby Motors, Ltd., at Fenton Street, Rotorua, on July 31, and thdft. : v ; - ' ' ' (5) Theft at Tokaanu on August 5 of one petrol drum and seven gallons of petrol (total value £ 6 15/2), the property of the Justice Department. (6) Theft at Normanby on August 11 from Fred Wiley and another of £2 12/6 in money and goods to a value of £10 7-10. (7 Theft from the Auckland Education Department at Katikati of goods' to a total value of £18 33-. (8) Theft of goods from Arcbibald King s Sihop, Main road, Eskdale, on August 23. .• ■ (9) Theft at Otvhango of goods from the shop of Thomas Newton Somerville on the Taumaruanui-Nat-ional Park main road on August 2'. (10) Theft from the shop of Wallace Supplies, Ltd., at Katikati on September 3.
