Misses May and Barbara Edkins have just reiorned from a fornight's holiday at Ohope Beach. Mr and Mrs B. A. McKenzie journeyed to Hamilton recently to attend functions in conneetion with the presentation of medals to the nurses who had passed their final at the Waikato Hospital. Their daughter Judith, who passed with honours in several subjects, was one of those to receive her medal. They also attended the dinner and ball in the evening. Judge Dykes is presiding at the Maori Land Court at Tokaanu this week. As he is retiring from the service at the end of this year, this will be his last sessicn at Tokaanu. A very well attended dance in aid of the Roman Catholic Church was held recently at Waihi. On Saturday week fire broke out j at about 9 p.m. in the two-roomed j cotta Ige of Mr and Mrs Ngahana at j Turangi, whilst Mrs Ngahana was ! absent in an adjoining house looking after her daughter's children. The first indication of the fire was an explosion probably caused by a spirit lamp on the premises, and by that time the fire had obtained such a hold j that there was no chance to save the building. | !
