MOBILE X-RAY UNIT

THE VISIT TO TAUPO It was announced some time ago in these columns that through the good offices of Mr C. Andrews, the Taupo representative on the Waikato Hospital Board the Taranaki Board's Mobile X-Ray Unit would visit Taupo for ari examination of the school children. Something seems to have happened to this arrangement. At a recent meeting of the Waikato Board Mr Andrews said (as reported in the Rotorua "Post")> that he had been asked to organise a visit to Taupo. Altbough there was no State power there, two firms had arranged to place their plants at the disposal of the unit without cost. Arrangements had also been mare to bring in children from the. outlying districts by bus. However, someone in the Health Department had said the unit was not to go there, as Taupo was to be a special experimental area. What this meant, nobody seemed to know. After further discussion, the board resolved to ask the department w'ho had cancelled the visit and the reasons for so doing. Apparently, however, the plan is to go on. In reply to a question cn the subject, the Taupo Town Clerk (Mr Torepe), said that it had not been convenient to have the visit on account of the school holi- » days, but it would eventuate later.
