VISIT OF MR KEARINS, M.P.
QUESTIONS DISCUSSED Following a resolution of a meeting of the Taupo Ratepayers ' Association on September 11th., advantage was taken of a visit by Mr Aearins, M.P., to discuss the followmg matters with him: — 1. — The fire hazard in connection with land development of 12,000 aeres between the top of the Spa Road and Aratiatia Rapids turn-off. 2. — The state of the Road via 1 Putaruru and the prospect of its being brought up to Main Highway s standards. Although the Businessmen's Association has already approached the Main fligihways ' Board on this question, it was felt that if a little more weight were brought to bear it might lead to more speedy action.

The ^Times" has ifow received from Mr Kearins a copy of, a letter to him from the Minister of Lands (Mr Corbett), in this connection: — "I am writing to acknowledge the rcpresenfcations you made to me on behalf of the Taupo Ratepayers' Association. You mentioned that Miss A. Wehringo of Taupo, the Secrefary of the Association, had written to you on several matters and I am referring the matters that do not concern me on to my colleagues, the Ministers of Works and Tourist and Health Resorts who are concerned. I have asked the Direetor-General of Lands for a report on the area suggested for settlement which Miss Wehringo refers to and as soon as this report is to hand I wil! write to you again."
