TAUPO TOWN BOARD
Monthly Meeting At the monthly meeting of the Taupo Town Board . on Wednesday last there were present, the chairman, Mr J. Story, and the following members:- Miss ,K. 0. Lewis, Messrs J. D. Swan, W. G. Morris and K. | E. Young. An apology for absence was received from Mr C. R. Vedder. The business' transacted was largely routine. Arising out of correspondence received, the following decisions were reached: Mr C. E. Baker was granted permission to ihstal a petrol pump in Kiwi Street, subject to compliance with the incidental Government regulations. An extension of time sought by parties represented by Messrs Davys and Barton, Solicitors, for the removai of kerbside pumps was granted. Applications are to be invited foi a full-time (temporarv), poundkeeper and dog registrar.
A date suitable to the parties is to be arranged for a meeting of the Town Board with representatives of the Businessmen's Association and the Ratepayers' Association to discu^ various* matters submitted to the Board for its considerations. The Board, unable to grant the use of the old orchard area to the War Memorial Association for a bonfire and fireworks display on Guy Fawkes' night, as it had been put down in grass, agreed that the demonstra-ti-on could take place in the Domain itself. A first option for the purchase of the Board's pole treating plant was granted to Mr J. W. Birnie. Support from the Board was sought for by the organisation for the United Nations' Appeal for Children. It was decided to recommend an ap~ proach by the organisation to the Taupo Ratepayers' Association. Further application is to be made to the State Advances Corporation in regard to the Town Board's £37,000 loan for the completion of the Hatepe Hydro-electricity Scheme.
Works Report The chairman, for the Works Comniittee, reported as follows on local works : Storm water control and turfing of Ruapehu Street is progressing. All this work has to be done by hand, therefore progress is slow. A section of Paoraepi Street has been widened and the sides clisced and graded. Discing of the roadside of the Kaiti! anawa-Rifle Range Road reserve has been carried out. A portion of the road to the A.C. Batks and adjoining the Golf Links has been formed. No work was necessary this month on the access road to the Board's Hydro Scheme. Fencing and levelling of the orchard camp is now finished and has been sown in grass. General maintenance and grading has been carried out. The Hydro-Power Scheme Work at the site is progressing, the iarch dam has been completed, and work irwell ahead on the piain power hause. Foundations for the plant are in place and the reinforced fioor is ready for pouring. The reticulation contractor is making good progress and is now within five miles of Taupo. Heavy Trafhe Tlie Works Committee recommends to the Board the enforcement of the rastriction on heavy logging trucks and tractors using the Board's roads. Logging trucks to traverse the Main Highway and Spa Roads. The report was adopted.
