TAUPO HOTELS
WAIMARINO LICENSING COMMITTEE At a sitring of the Waimarino Licensmg Committee held at Taihape on Tutu'ay. September 2nd., decis* ions were given with respect to the Spa Hotel, Lake Hotel and Tokaanu Hotel. Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M,. presided, and other members of the Committee present were Messrs F. Geraghty, and C. Goldfinch. There were two absentees, Messrs Loder (who was indisposed), and Wallace. For the police, Senior Sergeant Griffiths reported that the conduct of the hotels had been satisfactory, and there had been no complaints. No objections were offered. In the case of the Spa Hotel, the licensee, Mr J. W. Birnie, was granted a fuli publican's licence, with extensions to June 1953, the date of the next annual meeting of the committee. He was represented by Mr R. C. Ongley. Mr Ongley also appeared on behalf of the Tokaanu Hotel (State), whose representative was unavoidably prevented from attendance owing to a brealcdown of the hot-water system necessitating immediate repairs. This case is to be reviewed at the end of this month. On behalf of the Lake Hotel, Mr A. C. O'Connor, explaining delays in pushing on with the rebuilding, stiid that eight engineers and architects were busy engaged on the plans at present. There had been a hold up over the quantity surveys, and in the eircumstances it j was impossible to do more than was j being done. The Committee directed that a jfurther report should be submitted jat the end of September. i
