GOOD NEWS FOR BOATOWNERS
LANDING FACILITIBS AT TWOMILE BAY A successful working bee was organised on Sunday of last week by the Taupo Boat Club at Two Mile Bay for the purpose of improving access to ihe water. An area there, adjacent to the bitumen TaupoTurangi highway, was recently handed ov^r to the Town Board hy the Land and Survey Department as a domain, following representations to ihe Department which had been initiated by the club. The Town Board has given permission for the Club to put in a slipway or ramp to enable small craft to be easily put in and taken out of the water. This will be a great convenience to the increasing number of visitors who bring their boats to Taupo on trailers for fishing and boating on the lake, as weii as for visiting and local speed-boat owners.
It is considered that the site wii2 prove excellent for the purposes ©f the Club?s racing regattas, there being high ground on the reserve from which a splendid view of the water can be obtained, as well as ample parking space. Fifteen members of the Club worked enthusiastically in forming and pumicing a road from the maia highway to the beach, and were generously assisted by Mr C. E. Baker, who provided a bull-dozer and truck, and by Messrs R. W. Booth and D. R. McLeod, who provided a truck each. The Club plans to lay down a concrete ramp to lowesi water level as soon as possible. This will enable boat trailers to be backed into the water at all times. The proximity of the site to the town and bitumen highway will increase the value of this amenity for boat owners. M, , , , /
